Wood and Sullivan team up to represent England at new GolfSixes event
Chris Wood and Andy Sullivan are hoping to give home fans plenty of cheer when they team up to represent England at the innovative new GolfSixes tournament in May.
The Ryder Cup stars will face stiff opposition from other two-man teams representing Australia, France, Belgium, Denmark, India, Italy, Portugal, South Africa, Sweden, Spain, Thailand, The Netherlands, USA, Scotland and Wales.
Wood can’t wait to see home fans gather at the Centurion Club in Hertfordshire on May 6-7 for the inaugural two-day shootout. Wood said “Sully and I are good mates and I think we make a good team. We’ve both had amazing experiences in the past representing Europe at the Ryder Cup, and England at the World Cup of Golf.
“With the countries who are taking part, there could be some pretty intriguing rivalries thrown up and I’m sure we’ll see plenty of passion from the players and the fans.
“It’s a fresh, new format and I think that’s very welcome in golf right now. It should be an entertaining weekend, and I’m interested to see how it all works with the innovations inside and outside the ropes.”
Home fans may be in for some interesting viewing as teammates Wood and Sullivan may find themselves competing head to head with rivals from Scotland and Wales. Ryder Cup star, Jamie Donaldson will be teaming up with Bradley Dredge for Wales, while European Tour winners Richie Ramsay and Marc Warren aim to put on a similar display for Scotland.
The GolfSixes tournament starts on Saturday 6 May, with teams split into four groups of four, with the top two teams from each group going to the knockout stages, which will be contested on May 7.
In the group stages, three points will be given for winning a match with one point given for a draw while the matches themselves will be played in an greensomes match play format. You can watch the match live on Sky Sports.
